English Project Week
Right after our term holidays three native speakers visited our school to teach students of the third and fourth forms for one week.
As the English speaking teachers did neither speak nor understand German, our students were not allowed to use German during the lessons. So they had to communicate in English, which was difficult for some of them at the beginning. But by and by they got used to it and by the end of the week everybody was babbling along happily in the foreign language.
There were competitions, drum sessions, sports and even cookery lessons. Our students wrote English poems, sang English rap songs, cooked pizza and pancakes and played Engish games in the gym.
In this relaxed atmosphere kids did not need to worry about mistakes which encouraged them to use their skills freely and enabled them to learn new skills in a playful way.
